Reading Aloud and Family, an experience.
reading aloud has changed in form and role in our home while we have tried to adapt this method to our family life.
We went through a kind of reading very informal, no matter where the book we read, or when we read, nor where it ended or not. We have several books "half-read" for some reason. Most of the time because obviously not the time, ongoing projects, children captivated by other interests, a baby who does not want to wait, etc.. And at the root, the lack of an established routine with a baby growing sometimes it is literally impossible.
also have experienced the semi-formal reading, where we have a couple of books that we want to finish reading because we all care about. We try to find times during the day to sit and meet with "the text" of the day, but without losing the spontaneity and surprise decision: Ah! What if we read a few pages?
Here we try to limit ourselves to one or two interesting books, read only a few minutes and while rest in some other physical activity. With a cool drink (lemonade is a favorite), fresh or dried fruit, or any other sandwich we all sat on the floor and from pillows to read.
With a quasi-formal reading we split up around 3 or 4 different books with a reading of each day. Because it is during meals that children remain seated, entertained, quiet and good humor, that's when I read those books that are serious but interesting. Those who do not ask me their own volition, but at the same time have the power to capture their interest. Regularly in the morning are texts of the biblical story in chronological order and without frills or explanations sweetened as if it were unreal myths and stories. Over lunch I read a history book in which are in turn contained short stories in chronological spread. For dinner a little poetry, classical mythology or some more annoying than usual. Some
crutches that help us achieve our goals modest (5 to 10 minutes of reading), because in real life successfully apply a methodology with 4 children and a thousand distractions is not easy:
lay a table, snacks -meals, swings, sandbox, water buckets and toys, crayons, watercolors, and anything else that can be done without much concentration. :)
The formal reading is that we made during the morning hours when it's time to "school." Routine follow-time readings with different frequencies during the quarter. We organized in our "classroom" and sitting in chairs facing each read while the children carry out any other activity as "crutches" that I mentioned above. In this type always require a narrative reading, one of the most important pillars of philosophy which CM and then discuss in more detail. Two or three readings are divided between different activities and themes that keep the flow of our morning session. Visit

IX edition of the Carnival of Family Raising Blogs.
Aghh! I do not know how many carnivals I have passed, but little by little, one of these days I put to much right? It is my hope:) Well this is my participation in the Carnival IX where Silvia Growing Together (yes and added the link, finally) invited us to share those three books that have impacted our education in family, and other resources to influence and help in our walk.
Undoubtedly, the FIRST book (s) that has influenced and influences the way we educate are the 6 volumes of the Charlotte Mason philosophy, The Original Home Schooling Series. (free online reading here )
These books are worth their weight in gold. Not only by the wealth of detailed information on what is philosophy and its application , but by the great depth, extraordinary common sense and simplicity with which you comment on what the Education, Learning, children , the instructors or parents and how these factors interact in real life.
In no other book I could get real clarity and depth (both philosophical and practical) to understand these links and their role in a home educator. Whether parenting (habits, relationships, respect for the child as a whole person, etc) as their academic and moral instruction (as a person grow in knowledge, but also develop character and virtues that will benefit both the learner, and to those around). SECOND
The most inspiring book I've read is "For the Children's Sake, od Education Foundations for Home and School. "
This book confirmed the urgency that I drove him to open this blog, the support group and the dot-com. The future of our children is at risk if we do nothing to change the situation today. children have gone to second place in the life of our communities , and so his care. The lives of children today can be (in my mind) to compare the difference between a burger and fries at the center of the city and a nutritionally balanced meal (free of pesticides, additives and other crap added) prepared by a mother who loves children and takes care of every one of the things you put in your mouth.
The contents of the book includes what I consider the most important part of a home educator clearly define who the child . The child is a whole person is the premise with which Charlotte Mason builds his philosophy and Susan Schaeffer addresses considering each and every one of its implications . Susan also talks about what the definition Education and the role that the boundaries between authority and freedom play in the education of the child-rearing. the educational environment, habits, discipline, character development and the structure and form . Education is how to truly live the life, say Susan and Charlotte M. I enjoy very
understand the philosophical principles of Charlotte Mason methods, I used in daily life to make decisions and adapt to any unexpected situation to our advantage. Thanks to that I could find as attachment parenting and my beliefs have much in common, as my beliefs and educational philosophy that we use have much in common, and how everything works better at the same time my conscience is calm and satisfied yet when we are not doing what other families are doing.
When Children Love to Learn, A practical application of Charlotte Mason's Philosophy for today is my THIRD book is more academic and practical . It gives me a feeling of balance between a free and relaxed but at the same time highly structured academic in the classic sense of the word. This book was written for parents educators, and professionals Education. Practical examples and situations described are mostly those of a classroom which effect to apply the philosophy of Charlotte Mason and helps us see the big difference between education today and CM.
Here you can find an overview of each of the methods characteristic of CM, its origin and application. Books living, storytelling, reading and literature, spelling and composition, poetry, Shakespeare (the equivalent in our language would probably be Don Miguel de Servantes), History, Mathematics, Nature Study and Country Papers, Science, Studies, Painters Painting, Music Appreciation, Biblical instruction, foreign languages, physical education, crafts, crafts.
This book gives me a firm and objective idea of \u200b\u200bwhat the methodology CM is in its raw state .
I would have liked to add a list of other books that I have been helpful and others in my waiting list, but Father's Day and I have to go:) I stole a little time because I received an email reminding me of the carnival, I ran. Visit

Reading Aloud and Family, The Content. Reading aloud
So important is reading aloud to children, as is the content of the readings.
We know that children learn all the time and everywhere, even if nobody teaches them. We also know that absorb, through all their senses, the information presented by their environment, whatever.
The absorbing ideas and information are taken by children to bear fruit later with more ideas, actions, reactions, etc.
mean, that education that have been proposed in which the child learns the lesson for the sole purpose of filling your head with many data and then can be emptied into a test is too surface as a goal and worse as practice.
A good education affects the individual, his ideas, his vision of life, its findings, beliefs, superstitions, their interests, disinterested, their hatreds, fears, etc..
Thus we can safely say that, all education is religious (can not be "neutral") and everything around the child's education.
is why controlling the child's environment is one of the most important factors in various educational philosophies (Charlotte Mason, Waldorf, Montessori), although the methods by which this proposal faces are different philosophy and philosophy.
The contents of the readings are part of the environment in which the child develops, especially in the home. At home we do not read a book, "finished the class, but we live with the reader integrated into our lives naturally, such as eating and sleeping.
The contents of our reading should reflect those values, ideas, concepts, and practices that we consider important.
Not only in content but in form of expression.
A correct and richly descriptive vocabulary with each reading helps children to grow but at the same time is simple and clear enough to maintain their interest in history he describes. Is for this reason that when it comes to families with children of various ages is a good idea to keep two or three readings that can captivate all ages. Along
vocabulary, literary form. And by the way, the quality.
Classics of literature are a good start. Tales, fables and poems we all heard of children in school can be a great delight to children who are going to sit and enjoy what you read, without having to receive instructions on how to interpret it, which is what should remember, or why. That's the point of literature!
Children who have been exposed to these ideas and stories with simple vocabulary, but at the same time rich and fascinating ideas develop a taste for the kind of literature that serves to entertain the mind, but to enrich. For these there are even more options.
Harold Bloom wrote a book containing stories and poems recommended for its literary value. The Journal Babaar is an excellent guide that contains reviews, recommendations, and novelties for all ages. A Guide to Children's Literature of Latin America and the Caribbean is offered online by a virtual library . Ceva City has a great list, online and free. Of course, with a google search can find a thousand remedies more. (Virtual libraries, electronic books, audiobooks, etc etc) Here in the blog, under the label of books, resources, and the Internet, you can find some recommendations we have made in the past.

How To Cook A Leg Of Chicken Oregano
Finally, on the road to a rich lifetime of reading.
My dear C 5 almost 6 years has begun to read. One of those magical moments that thanks to the Family Education I could share with him. Is surprised at being able to decode words in these letters with sounds that come together. Do not want to stop. A couple of months ago I was neither interested nor ready. But in time, their time came. (Is there redundancy as literary method? Lol) Congratulations
wab! I love you little guy:) (so much that it hurts the heart.)
PD. For there I have two outstanding tickets, aid for learning to read, and reading aloud. When you can finish them. Visit

What Temperature Does Copper Pipe Freeze
Individuality, an endangered treasure. Susan Schaeffer
is my opinion that educational models are mainly mass that are achieving the individual convictions of people disappear and we are living a reality where the verbiage about tolerance and respect are nothing but a mask that a gets when you're in public, but when it comes to expressing views opposed to the "status quo" of social thought in mass tremble like children before the school bully, and shut up "dignity."
Is there anyone out there who is also frightened by the uniformity of thought in society around us?
Could this be the reason why the "progressive" ("Social justice" or "equality for all") is suddenly so popular?
[sarcasm on]
[sarcasm off]
Here a video with images clearly expresses what we all know in my heart.

Friends, do not dare to disagree, because that's not fair:)
The lack of individuality is the secret ingredient that will give us the happiness we all desire. Let us all think, and letting this great responsibility to the state, with power to decide for us what is best for us, because the state itself can be just while we're a bunch of selfish and conceited to think we know what best for our families, our children, our lives. Oh, sorry ... the children of the state:)
"Educate your family?
That is beyond liberal orthodoxy!
